Narrow-gauge Museum Erica
The narrow gauge at its best in a natural environment
Experience it through a ride on a narrow-gauge train. From our museum building with a static and dynamic narrow-gauge exhibition, you depart for a journey through a beautiful area, largely on an original route, formerly used for peat transport.
During the ride, regular stops and explanations are given about the narrow-gauge railway and the specific area, where more than seventy species of birds occur and nowadays peat moss grows again. The area is part of Geopark de Hondsrug, which since 2015 has the status of UNESCO Global Geopark.
Due to the low speed, so characteristic of this narrow gauge, you have enough time to enjoy the surroundings and the train journey. Along the route, narrow gauge equipment is installed in various compositions and applications.
The ride also leads you to the peat litter factory, with the associated unloading installation. It is the only peat litter factory in our country that has been kept in its original state.
The peat litter factory, which is open for visitors, still contains the original production machines. Here you get an impression of the earlier production process of peat litter.
The 4-track narrow-gauge depot, built in 1910, has also been used on the museum grounds for years as a workshop for the museum. Both the peat litter factory and the depot are Rijksmonument.
The museum, which runs entirely on volunteers, has a large collection of narrow-gauge locomotives, wagons, tools, photos and other material.
The museum hall has a self-service restaurant. You can enjoy a variety of hot and cold drinks or food there.
